Maryland and coach Mark Turgeon had been reluctant to use its zone defense since conference play started, but the Terps’ headman switched to it early Feb. 7 with the Illini dominating in the paint. After about 10 minutes, in which the Illini had scored 32 points, the headman went to a 1-3-1, which confused the Illini the rest of the night.
