COLLEGE PARK, Md. — There were plenty of encouraging facets surrounding Maryland’s (13-2, 3-1 Big Ten) 67-55 victory against No. 11 Ohio State Jan. 7 at Xfinity Center, but at the forefront was the play of sophomore forward Jalen Smith. The 6-foot-10, 230-pound Baltimore native has drawn his share of criticism for a supposed aversion to contact and spending too many minutes hovering around the perimeter, but Smith has transformed his game since Big Ten play resumed.
