KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- University of Maryland kicker Chad Ryland and offensive lineman Jaelyn Ducan were selected in the 2023 NFL Draft on Saturday.
Ryland was chosen by the New England Patriots with the 10th pick of the fourth round (No. 112 overall). Duncan was taken with the ninth pick of the sixth round (No. 186 overall).
Ryland and Duncan join defensive backs Deonte Banks (1st Rd. / NYG) and Jakorian Bennett (4th Rd. / Raiders) as the four Terps drafted thus far. This marks the most Maryland players selected in a single draft since four Terps were also chosen in 2019.
Ryland is the first kicker drafted from Maryland since Dan Plocki was selected in 1989.
Ryland excelled during his only season with the Terrapins, ending the year making 19 of his 23 field goal attempts (82.6%). He connected on 16 of his 17 field goal attempts inside 50 yards, while also ranking first in the Big Ten and third nationally with three field goal makes of 50 or more yards.
Duncan is the first Maryland offensive lineman to be drafted since Derwin Gray in 2019.
Duncan, a three-time Honorable Mention All-Big Ten selection, had 39 career starts in a Terrapin uniform. He blocked for a Maryland passing offense that ranked third in the Big Ten in 2022 by averaging 259.8 yards per game in the air. Duncan has helped protect Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa, who has set 11 career and single-season program passing records, over the past three seasons.
Duncan participated in the 2023 Reese's Senior Bowl in February and the NFL Combine in March. A New Carrollton, Maryland native, Duncan earned his degree in Family Science in December.
