Maryland has elected to hire a new defensive coordinator in former Auburn and Tennessee interim head coach Kevin Steele, who will replace Brian Stewart. Stewart will remain with the Terps, however, and coach safeties.

The 63-year-old Steele is from Dillon, South Carolina, and has been coaching since 1980. He has had stops in various roles at Tennessee, New Mexico State, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, the Carolina Panthers in the NFL, Baylor, Florida State, Alabama, Clemson, LSU and Auburn.
