COLLEGE PARK, Md. — When Maryland senior center Pharrel Payne threw down a power dunk and then collapsed in a heap of pain against Marquette Nov. 16, it was feared the big man would be lost for the year. Payne, who injured his hip, writhed on the floor and had to be taken off in a stretcher.
The full extent of the injury is not yet known, but word out of College Park is that Payne avoided a serious setback. The Terps’ (3-1) leading scorer at 18.
