Four Terps Earn All-Conference Honors

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Headlined by Jahmir Young being named to the All-Big Ten First Team, a total of four Terps were named to all-conference postseason squads as announced by the league office on Tuesday. In addition to being named to the All-Big Ten First Team by the media, Young was also selected to the second team by the coaches and named as Maryland's Sportsmanship Award honoree.

Julian Reese earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention accolades by both the media and coaches, while Donta Scott was also an honorable mention selection on the coaches' side. DeShawn Harris-Smith rounded out the honorees on the Big Ten All-Freshman Team.

Young led the Terps with 20.8 points per game during the regular season which ranked third in the Big Ten and 22nd nationally. His 2,597 career points are second-most among all active NCAA players. He posted a career-best 623 points this year which ranks 15th all-time for a single-season at Maryland. He is just the fifth player in Maryland history to reach 1,000 points in two seasons and the third fastest to do so needing just 57 games.

His 20.8 points per game this year is tied for 9th in a single-season for program history, while his 18.1 point per game average over two years is fifth-best all-time at Maryland for a career. After having posted 1,421 points at Charlotte, he became just the sixth player since 2006 to score 1,000 points at two different institutions.

Young posted 18 20-point games this year along with three 30-point efforts. His career-high 37 points in the win at UCLA and his 36 points at Northwestern are the top-two individual scoring performances in the league this year.

Young earned All-Big Ten Second Team honors in 2023 where he was also a two-time All-District selection.

Scott became one of just five players in program history to surpass 1,500 career points and 800 career rebounds. He currently ranks 14th all-time in career scoring with 1,670 points and ninth with 851 career rebounds. He holds the program's all-time records for games played (160), games started (144), and minutes played (4,720). 

The fifth-year senior currently ranks fourth all-time in program history with 209 career three pointers and 21stwith 96 blocked shots.

This season, he reached double figures in 18 games highlighted by 22 points in the win over Michigan. He also posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds at Michigan State.

Scott was a 2023 All-Big Ten Honorable Mention selection and was twice on the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Watch List (2021-22, 2022-23).

Reese has been Maryland's second-leading scorer averaging 13.9 points per game, while leading the Terps with 9.7 rebounds per game. The junior has a career-best 15 double-doubles this season giving him 24 for his career – the fourth-most for any Terp since 2010-11. 
With 417 points, 292 rebounds and 56 blocked shots, Reese is just the second player behind Purdue's Zach Edey to have 400-plus points, 250-plus rebounds, and 50-plus blocks. He has posted career-best numbers in each category this year while also adding a career-high 31 steals.

Reese needs 12 points heading into the Big Ten Tournament to become the 61st player in program history to reach 1,000 career points.

Prior to the season, he was named to the Karl Malone Watch List and was an All-Big Ten Preseason honoree after earning honorable mention all-conference honors last year.

Harris-Smith becomes the first Big Ten All-Freshman selection since Jalen Smith in 2018-19 and the 12th Terp overall since 1992-93 to be named to a conference all-freshman team.

The rookie started 28 of 31 games played averaging 7.1 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. He also added 65 assists and 30 steals which were second and third, respectively, on the team this season. His 221 points were third-most this season among all Big Ten freshmen guards, while he led the group with 133 rebounds and ranked second in steals.
