2019-20 YEAR/ELIGIBILITY: Freshman, first year 

RECRUITING: Byrd was a low three-star out of McEachern (Powder Springs, Ga.) who mainly procured non-power-five offers before the Terps and Colorado came through late. UMD, in need of another corner in the 2019 class, corners coach Cory Robinson and assistant Brawley Evans contacted Byrd and began recruiting him. In turn, Byrd decided to take an official to College Park, Md.
