Former Maryland guard Anthony Cowan Jr. was selected with the 16th overall pick of the 2020-21 NBA G League Draft by the Memphis Hustle. The Hustle are the G League affiliate of the Memphis Grizzlies.

Cowan pieced together one of the most decorated careers in Maryland history, earning All-Big Ten honors three times and leading the Terps to the 2020 Big Ten Championship before the season was cut short due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Bowie, Md., native finished seventh in Maryland history in points (1881), fifth in assists (584), second in minutes (4395) and first in free throws made (579). He also started all 130 games of his career, breaking Keith Booth's record for consecutive starts.

Cowan was one of only two players in Big Ten history to record 1,800 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists, joining Penn State's Talor Battle.

The NBA announced on Jan. 8 that the G League will take the court in February at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney Resort near Orlando, Fla.
